After 31 years, it was time to do a more complete renovation and update of the interior spaces of our home. The traditional carpeted stairs with the traditional turned white wooden newell posts and ballisters, and the bread loaf style of handrail were in past need of attention. We solicited quotations from two contractors that both listed over a decade of experience specializing in staircase construction and repair as well as having superior online reviews. Ultimately, we selected Crown Rail. In addition to quoting a more competitive price, Crown Rail’s scope of services appeared more detailed, fit better with the existing design of the house, and at the same time would bring the handrail into meeting the current building code. We were given a tentative start date about a month out and Crown Rail was able to move that date up and start four days early. Chris and Ben completed the installation and did an excellent job. The overall quality and workmanship of the work was exceptional. The joints were all tight and the stairs didn’t squeak Chris and Ben were always conversive, patiently answered any questions that we had, and routinely engaged us during the process to ensure that our expectations were being met. As a retired Licensed Construction Contractor and Project Manager, I highly recommend Crown Rail for your staircase needs.

Michael and his installers, Chris and Ben, installed a handrail, and replaced an old newel post, balusters, and baluster rail for the main stairs at the front door hall in my old plaster and lathe house. Michael was very helpful in helping me pick out the design and communicating with me to schedule delivery and installation. He has 40 years of experience and excellent customer relations. Chris and Ben are engaging young men with excellent carpentry skills and experience working with plaster and lathe. They were pleasant men to have in my house as they worked. The Installation was efficiently completed and they cleaned up very well. The outcome gives a fine, finished look to my home’s entrance that fits with the style of my house. We had a fantastic experience with Crown Rail. They removed three drywall halfwalls from our stairway and replaced them with beautiful wood railing and metal balusters. They also replaced our carpeted stairs with custom treads. Michael was on the ball and was able to get us scheduled very quickly at a fair price. Chris and Ben did amazing work. Michael and his team were so awesome to work with. We had a railing that was broken, another loose and the main staircase needed updating. Michael came out and gave a very reasonable estimate, took a small deposit to order the supplies and scheduled the install date for me. His installers came and were super friendly and very polite. They did a great job on the installation, and were very careful not to create too much of a mess. They cleaned up both days that they were here working. Stair railings are tight now and much safer. We had them install wrought iron post and it looks so much nicer..

Extremely clean work habits

This project replaced stair railings, with iron balusters and wood handrails (red oak). They were exactly what I wanted. The crew was very nice to work with, and they cleaned the place up up before they left. The price was fair. All in all a successful project!

This was a very easy experience working with Michael and his team. Chris and Ben did a great job pulling out our old wood spindles, carpet and newel posts and bringing us into the current century. Chris and Ben were great to work with and explained what they were doing and why. They reviewed the wrought iron railing pattern with us to come up with the best design. Additionally, I had requested a quote from another local company known for doing stairs. I finally gave up on them after not hearing back for a week and just told Michael to run with it. I thought his bid was extremely fair from the beginning. Right before they started, I got that bid back and it was 5k higher than Michaels. I found Anything In Wood after exploring a few other stairs remodel companies that seemed to be extremely high with their estimates. Michael started the process by coming to my house and providing me with a fair quote and recommendations based on his years of experience. Mike sent out Chris and Ben to replace our railing….from start they worked non stop, no extra breaks…just worked! The first day they had almost all complete, they took extra time to clean the work area, ensure they left no mess at the end of the work day. Very respectful! The next day they had all in place and job completed, again cleaning my home to ensure they left nothing behind, no mess, no clutter…just very professional all the way around. I will note, these young men who did the project….had more professional ethics and skills then many…many other folks of a much older age.

The young men that did most of the work were incredibly talented, worked hard, showed up EVERY day & time they said they would. They cleaned up after themselves. super personable and great guys. From the moment Michael came to give me an estimate for a replacement banister, he kept me informed at every step – when the materials were ordered when they arrived,… Chris and Ben were able to start the project more than a week earlier than scheduled. I had hired a contractor to redo my railings and he messed everything up and basically took my $ and didn’t finish the job. We hit the jackpot with these guys! Michael, Chris and Ben delivered promise, product and customer service. I hired them to repair and replace the hand rails, balusters, stringers, trim and caps due to a bad DIY from the previous owner. They demolished and rebuilt just about everything. Chris and Ben truly had their work cut out for them with my project! We had an instant connection with Michael, the owner. He came out several times and helped us imagine what our dumpy staircase could become. He knows what looks good and what doesn’t so take his advice! Chris and Ben are the ones who really made the vision come alive. I was skeptical when Chris estimated 2 days of work as I was worried about issues arising when carving off the DIY plaster on my stringers, but they had the skill and the tools to get it done within the estimated 2 days. As an aside, Chris and Ben are so polite, professional and respectful. They showed up at 9 and left between 5-6. They stayed until nearly 8pm on day 2 to get the job done so I could get my painters lined up. Once the paint and stain was done, they came back to install beautiful iron balusters, which look absolutely incredible!. At the end of each day, they did a great job of vacuuming and cleaning up the work space before they left and I am so thankful as we have a 2-year old and dogs. In conclusion, Michael, Chris and Ben are the dream team. I can’t say enough good things about them, especially Chris and Ben. They work so well together and they work HARD for their clients. This was the second time I've hired the guys to do work in our home. They built a beautiful railing and installed spindles last time, and this time they removed old spindles and installed new ones. Really outstanding work by Michael, and his crew Ben and Chris, in rebuilding our curved custom stairwell. From the initial consultation through to the finish, Michael was consistent, reliable and responsive in messaging and follow up. Though not acting formally as a contractor, he substantially aided in coordination with the needed additional vendors providing custom carpentry and hardwood finishing. It’s a much bigger and more complex project than I’d originally have thought (and priced to match–though price wasn’t at all out of line with other bids)–but executed expertly by Anything in Wood.

Michael and Cassidy were easy to work with and had great attention to detail. Michael was very prompt when replying to my quote request and listened closely to my requirements. I am a bit of a do-it-yourselfer, but I know when I encounter something that requires someone with experience. I had done most of the demolition and part of the step replacement when he arrived onsite. Michael was more than willing to pitch in and help with the items that I did not know how to do. I had a 12 ft rail that needed to be bent clamped and glued, and then needed guidance on the remainder of the rail replacement and baluster layout. Michael and Cassidy bent, glued shaped and installed the rail and the fittings and they look great. Michael took his time to get it just right, going above and beyond the typical, by my high standards, to insure that the curved handrail lined up and looked exactly right. The remainder of the railing setup and install and the baluster layout were critical to make the finished product look stunning in our entryway. Michael even took the time to take an iron baluster with him that needed to be lengthened to accommodate the very top step that needed to reach the top rail fitting to a metal shop to have it welded, ground smooth and he painted it to match. I am delighted with the work performed by Michael and Cassidy from Anything Wood and I will gladly provide a reference for them. Thank you, Greg

We are very happy with the work that Michael Saparo did in remodeling our stair railings, newels and balusters. They did the job for a reasonable charge, kept in good communication with us, kept to their stated schedule and cleaned up after each day.

Micheals work was the best i’ve ever seen for railing work. There was a lot of angle cuts and every one came out perfect. He added trim arount the posts which added a touch of class. There is not one thing i can find that was not done to perfection. I would Highly recommend him to anyone who is thinking of installing railing around their stairway. He was professional and curteous at all times and would answer any questions i had.
